Leadfooting it to Galena

Studmuffin and I took a little day trip the other day; something we haven't been able to do as much of as we would like, often on account of me not wanting to leave Punchy (beloved dog) unattended for long periods in our secondary abode.  However, he is at camp this week and I am trying not to miss him too much!

So, on a bright, sunny morning we filled our coffee travel mug, grabbed cinnamon rolls at a bakery along the way, and headed for Galena, a former lead mining boomtown in western Illinois. Nowadays Galena's most important metal would be silver--as in coinage.  Lots of little shops and restaurants line their long, curving Mainstreet, happily ready to relieve you of your spare cash.  And, for as much as we cared to, we happily obliged!

We hadn't been to Galena in around 15 years, so we wondered if it had changed much.  I'm happy to report it looks as "quaint" as ever.  We wandered about, lazed in the sun, boosted the local economy, stuffed ourselves with pasta and ice-cream, and took a trolley tour.  All of which I'd highly recommend!  A day well spent... ding, ding, ding goes the trolley....clang, clang, clang goes the bell.  Zing, zing, zing goes my heartstrings....! (Sorry, I couldn't resist.  Woohoo!)

  1. Glad to see you had a wonderful day in Galena! From the pictures, it looks like you picked a perfect time to come. We hope you can make another visit soon (at least quicker than 15 years). :-) From your friendly hosts for visitor information... the Galena/Jo Daviess County CVB

  2. That trolley made me jolly. To anyone who loves American house architecture, Galena is a marvelous museum but also full of life.
