that I can report that our robin's nest is now EMPTY! It seemed like it took forever; had the weather not been mostly rainy the last few weeks, it would have seemed even longer. We saw no sign of any of them, but the woman in the slip next to ours mentioned that she saw a baby bird sitting on the bottom of our boat yesterday. "There was nothing I could do," she said. Probably true. Then she said something about turtle food...[shrug]. Well, yeah--shrug. In the big picture of things, a little bird's life is not useless if a turtle gets lunch....turtles hafta eat, too...and have little turtles... the beat goes on.
Robins aren't exactly cute at this age....
So today, after a minor mishap with what turned out to be a dead battery (either my husband or some punk turned on the lights and left them that way...grrrr), it was fine sailing...er, pontooning. Despite the wind, we managed to float about, drop anchor, get some sun, have a vodka-tonic (or 2), and generally enjoy the freedom of it all. We're very, very lucky...
and I hope those little robins were, too!
